I'm back...

..for the good. (Is this a oft used cliche?)

I was away on a business sojourn to the US. I am planning to post some interesting snaps from the trip.

I could see that I have repeated hits from some domains. For them, I say Thanks and for the others Welcome.

Changing times

This article by Richard Boock in the NZ Herald, highlights why its futile on the part of New Zealand to rally the old establishment, ie., Australia & England, in the ICC to back its case of pulling out of the tour of Zimbabwe.

While on the subject of balance of power, this article argues why the Indian board should back down, inspite of the power it wields in the ICC of today, when it comes to Ganguly case.

As Boock's headline says, White men don't rule cricket any more. The Brownies do.

Travelling Terror

I just read two posts by Kafka on the shore and Mangs on the dark side of the train journeys, especially if your fellow traveller belongs to the 'i'm-totally-screwed-inside' tribe.

Feel lowly about being an man after going through these posts.

Beyond reasons

Do you think everything that happens to you happens for a reason? If so, then you need to check out this blog by Kafka on the shore.

Excellent piece especially the incident with the little girl.

Why ICICI bank sells cattle feed?

Market conditions. What else?

This report throws up the immense opportunity available in the rural landscape for banks and companies, who 've a out-of-the-box thinking.

Costly Affair

Marriage is a costly affair, if seen, in the context of the Karishma Breakup and slew of other such breakup's. Good article in times detailing the strategy of Bollywood x-Wives.

Yeh Dil Maange More..

..of such Aarti's in india. The little girl's feat is especially commendable since she's hailing from a state which is traditionally seen as one not welcoming the fairer sex getting educated.

May your tribe increase, Aarthi.

Problem within the sheets

As confusing as the blog title may seem, this indeed is an Interesting report on the problem faced by, if we go by the survey in the report, most hongkongers (the name sounds funny). For me the high point of the report was the following:

Another poll even suggested Hong Kong men prefer to go to work rather than have sex.

Have they checked out if they really are one? I mean..how could they..HK girls..grrr!! Never mind. My lights are out for the day.

Here I come, darling.

Honour Killing...

..but somehow in this case justice seems to have been meted out properly and in a speedy manner.

Report on NDTV, about a family killing the head-of-the-family for raping his own daughter.

It stills stumps me, however, hard I think as to how a father can commit such a beastly act or rather was it the beast that was acting as a father till such time as this incident happened?

In all, a very very deplorable incident.

PS: Amit Verma, of IndiaUncut fame, thinks otherwise.

Tit-Bits

Some interesting piece of news that I read on The Week while travelling back to Salubrious Bangalore from Salty Chennai - ahem! I am referring just to the weather.

Byte 1: Somewhere in the juggles near ranchi. The forest guard catch a group of timber thief but the end result is that the criminals walk away scot-free. No, they don't owe their freedom to I won my cases come what may lawyer or by greasing the policewallahs. So, what ought to be the reason?

3 women. Yes, my friends t-h-r-e-e women. Here's how the rest of the story goes. Once the policeman catch the criminals, these women gather at the spot and ask the policemen to release the men. If they don't budge, hmmm!! they just strip down and start shouting for help. The policewallah's release the men just to not to make a name for themselves on the headlines.

Byte 2: I read the review of the book Who killed Daniel Pearl?. The review has got me hooked up to the book and I think I am gonna try getting that book ASAP. If by-chance you have read the book, please leave your comments.

Byte 3: A tea stall owner in UP got a electricity bill of 1.56 lakhs. Guess the appliance he used to run up this bill?

2 Bulbs.

PS: Do they send bills to the CM's residence?

Jobs's 3 Stories

An inspiring and though provoking speech by Steve Jobs.

The Anglosphere Century

Good article by Mark Steyn in the Telegraph, presenting the contradictions within China which ultimately is going to pull it down.

Equally I am skeptical on Steyn being bullish about India because India itself finds itself surrounded by a myriad of problems.

500Rs Chapathi?

Terrific article on the siachen stand-off between India and Pakistan by Col Athale. The highlight of the article is the following:

Strategically, tactically, it is a useless piece of real estate.

The cost is horrendous, a chapatti delivered to a soldier there cost
Rs 500. Even the excreta of soldiers manning these posts has to be
lifted by helicopters and brought to base for disposal!

We a nation who cannot afford to feed more than half of our population with a day's chapatti, deliver the same to our soldiers at an horrendous cost. No piece of real estate, however priceless it may be, should be ever be so high-maintenace.
